I have totally fallen off my “hymn rewrite a week”, but here is one I had written a few weeks ago but didn’t introduce to West Hill until this past Sunday. Yeah, I know. It makes you want to swing a stein as you’re singing the chorus, but I didn’t write the music! The tune is that used for The Battle Hymn of the Republic, and like the Mormon Tabernacle Singers do for the original version, Scott slowed the third verse down considerably (warning the congregation in advance), and it was beautiful. Enjoy!
Battle Hymn of the Republic was one of two songs I knew by heart and sang emotively to my family while we were on long car trips. The other one was House of the Rising Sun. lol!

Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic
<
p style=”text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;”>In the brilliance of the morning, we rise up and welcome dawn.
It is through those radiant moments that our lives still carry on.
From the dark we have arisen, in the day we’ll sing our song:
‘Tis love that makes us strong!
<
p style=”text-align: left; padding-left: 60px;”>Sing it brightly in the morning!
Sing it brightly in the morning!
Sing it brightly in the morning!
“‘Tis love that makes us strong!”
<
p style=”text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;”>In the chaos of the midday, scarce a time to call our own,
we raise fam’lies, we build bridges, we create the world we’re on.
Still we know that under chaos beats our ever-present song:
‘Tis love that keeps us strong!”
<
p style=”text-align: left; padding-left: 60px;”>Sing it clearly in the daytime!
Sing it clearly in the daytime!
Sing it clearly in the daytime!
“‘Tis love that keeps us strong!”
<
p style=”text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;”>In the shadows of the evening, when the light of day is gone,
we repose with friends and fam’ly or to solitude are drawn
In the peace of our surroundings, still persists a gentle song,
“’Tis love has kept us strong!”
<
p style=”text-align: left; padding-left: 60px;”>Sing it softly in the evening!
Sing it softly in the evening!
Sing it softly in the evening!
“’Tis love has kept us strong!”
<
p style=”text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;”>As the night falls all around us, to the night we do belong.
Under cover of its darkness, goodness wrestles with the wrong.
May our dreams ring with the beauty of that never-ending song,
“In love, we all belong!”
<
p style=”text-align: left; padding-left: 60px;”>Sing it bravely in the darkness!
Sing it bravely in the darkness!
Sing it bravely in the darkness!
“In love, we all belong!”
