The Agenda
As a panelist on The Agenda with Steve Paikin, November 17th at 8:00 on TVO, I'll be discussing the evolution of faith. The question on everyone's mind is "Can faith evolve? Which, of course, leads to the next question, "If yes, will it?" Tune in, or if you missed the segment, pick it up on TVO's site.

Anne Walker

As I walked into a meeting this evening, another participant asked me if I was okay. My tear-filled eyes were the cause of his query. I waved off his concern. "I've been listening to Anne Walker's CD," I replied. "Ah!" my inquirer replied, his face filled with understanding.

Anne, a member of the congregation I serve, West Hill United, is a singer/songwriter who has graced our Sunday services with beauty and inspiration for almost two years. This past February she launched her latest CD, Labyrinth, after a decade away from the spotlight. The years have only added to the strength with which she wrestles the challenges of life and the beauty with which she celebrates it.

When I listen to Anne's music, as my friend noticed, my eyes often fill with tears. But like most of my tears, they are for beauty, not for sadness, for what moves me, not what refuses to be moved. Anne's heart is interlaced with the truths so many of us struggle to grasp. And while those truths often buckle the knees of otherwise strong and hearty folk, Anne is able to carry them with grace because she weaves them into her songs and her music. Listen carefully and you will hear not only Anne's truths poured out in music but your own.

More Magazine's 40 most compelling women over 40!
It was an amazing rush to open the February/March issue of More Magazine and find myself listed alongside 39 awesome women who had, along with me, been chosen as the most compelling women over 40 in Canada. Actually, I hadn't been aware that I had made the list until a member of my congregation told me she'd seen the article. A peek behind that fabulous picture of Emma Thompson in peacock blue and there it was! I love the word "compelling." It opens up the possibility, the requirement, actually, of movement. It makes us break out of stereotypes and ruts and invites us into places we might have otherwise avoided. Compelled beyond our preconceived limitations, we go where we dared not, cover territory never previously traversed, explore beyond what bound us to the past. We are compelled to do so when the specifics of our situations no longer let us stay safe and comfortable in our previous sheltered worlds. We are compelled to move when we have to move and not before. I love the word "compelling." It is a strong and meaningful word. And I am honoured to have been described by it.
